CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
BA, DPsych(Clin) Monash.

Adam has always been curious about people, their stories and what drives them. After personally experiencing how psychology can help people understand themselves and heal, it felt like a really good fit to practice something so interesting that also helps others.
After finishing a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology in 2018, Adam worked in the drug and alcohol sector for five years, mostly using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Prolonged Exposure therapy with individuals who had experienced significant trauma in their lives and often had Personality Disorder diagnoses. Since 2023, Adam has been working in private practice, and with military veterans (Open Arms). This shift has involved working mostly via telehealth, giving Adam the freedom to travel while working and to set his own schedule.
In this time, with continued training, Adam’s preferred therapy style has also shifted towards Schema Therapy - which aims to understand and shift lifelong patterns of behaviour and emotion. This might include deep feelings of loneliness, anger, inadequacy, sadness that have been present across a client’s lifetime and have usually developed in childhood or early adulthood. Schema therapy aims to find new ways to cope with these feelings and related thought patterns. This is done by finding new ways for the client’s ‘healthy adult’ perspective to meet the needs of their inner child (e.g., unconditional love and warmth, playfulness, joy) which were often ignored or insufficiently met in childhood.
Adam’s focus in therapy is to provide a relaxed and comfortable space, where it feels safe to work through the difficult stuff, understanding that this can take time and requires conscious engagement from both the client and therapist.
Although work is an important part of Adam’s life, he also tries to have balance in life - and living on the road means that he’s been able to simplify his life, with enough time to connect with nature, read, exercise and reflect.
